Working From Home: Do You Have What It Takes?

Working from home is often more comfortable because you are in your own home all day. Some people know how to work well from home. Others cannot because they don't have the discipline to take their work seriously.

Some people have the option at their day job to work from. Not everybody has what it takes to work at home. See if you have it in you to work without a boss breathing down your throat!

Never mind being self-employed, working from home generally takes a certain kind of discipline. A lot of people work at the office on the computer all day and don't interact that much with their colleagues. It makes sense that some of these people resent going into work everyday.

What does it take to work efficiently from home? If you regularly sleep in on a work day and come into the office late, your patterns working from home will get even more pronounced. This means that you will feel like nobody needs anything from you right away and you can sleep in more. This is not true. You will still have the same responsibilities when you work from home. This means that you will still have the same deadlines.

If you don't have the discipline to wake up early, you may not have discipline in other areas of your life. Besides, even if you are a morning person, you may work very well first thing in the morning but you may drop off soon after. When you work from home, you have the luxury and the comforts of working at home but you still have the same amount of work you need to get done. This means that if you want to have a nap in the middle of the day or take the dog for a walk to the park, you will need to work a longer day.

Just because nobody is watching you, it doesn't mean that you can be watching TV while you are doing your work from home. If you worked in a quiet office, your home office should be quiet too. The luxury of working at home means that you can wear your pajamas and slippers all day if you want to. You can also eat your lunch at home which is really nice.

If you have deadlines, phone meetings or anything that requires a timeline, you need to be serious about it. The more on top of things you are, the better. You may even want to call your boss periodically to give her updates on your progress. This way, your work will be acknowledged.

If you show any signs of slacking off when you work from home, your boss will find a way to test you and see what kind of work you do at home in a day. Also, if your work performance looks poor, you may be asked to work in the office again so that your boss can monitor you. Even worse, you may loose your job.

Working from home is not a vacation. It is still work. Take it seriously if you want to stay working from home.
